Simply Delightful was founded in 2004 by Chef Russell Morgan, a culinary visionary whose deep-rooted passion for cooking ignited a journey that would leave a lasting impact on his community. What began as a modest idea quickly evolved into a beloved local gem. Chef Russell started by taking pre-orders for breakfast and lunch, personally preparing and hand-delivering meals to neighborhood barbershops, hair salons, and car dealerships. His heartfelt approach and attention to every detail reflected more than just a food service—it was the beginning of a cultural connection.
He also offered weekly meal prep services to his most loyal customers, making sure they always had access to fresh, home-cooked meals prepared with love. From the very beginning, his mission was clear: to nourish both body and soul through food that felt like family.
As word spread about his flavorful dishes, unmatched service, and warm, welcoming spirit, Simply Delightful became more than a name—it became a staple in the community. The growing demand led to an expansion into catering, and in 2010, Chef Russell opened Simply Delightful Soul Food & Catering in Suitland, Maryland. The restaurant quickly earned a reputation for its inviting atmosphere—where every guest was treated like family—and for its soulful dishes steeped in tradition.
While overseeing daily dine-in and takeout operations, Chef Russell continued to bring his signature soul food to weddings, family reunions, church functions, and community events across the region. His food didn’t just fill plates—it created memories, sparked conversations, and forged lasting bonds.
Chef Russell’s dedication and heartfelt cooking paid off. From 2013 to 2016, Simply Delightful was nominated four years in a row for the nationally recognized Neighborhood Award for Best Soul Food—taking home the honor in 2014. The restaurant even gained media attention, being featured on Fox 5 News during the popular series “Will You Eat There?”, spotlighting the authenticity and heart behind the brand.
Despite its success, Simply Delightful Soul Food & Catering closed its doors in 2017 due to economic challenges. Yet even in the face of adversity, Chef Russell’s passion never wavered. Fueled by the love of his community and a commitment to honoring his roots, he knew this was not the end of the story.
In 2025, he proudly launched Simply 2 Delightful—a revival and evolution of the original brand, carrying forward its legacy of flavor, culture, and family. This new chapter is more than a comeback—it's a continuation of a mission to bring people together through food that speaks to the soul.
Today, that mission is stronger than ever. Chef Russell has assembled a passionate and dedicated team—individuals who share his values, embrace the culture, and believe in the power of good food to bring people together. This team is not just staff; they are family. Each member brings unique talents and heart to the table, working alongside Chef Russell to ensure the tradition of excellence and warmth continues with every plate served.
At the heart of our kitchen is Chef Russell himself, whose unwavering dedication to quality, community, and culture is infused into every dish. Guided by his heartfelt motto:
"I love what I do, and so will you!"
he leads by example, ensuring every meal reflects the love, heritage, and soul that have defined Simply Delightful since day one.
Whether catering a milestone celebration or serving up a comforting plate of soul food, Simply 2 Delightful remains committed to creating not just meals, but moments—honoring our past while embracing the future with open arms and full plates.
